Mikey-Gate is something that is brought up in almost every chat these days, and many were not there to experience it when it happened. So...

On April 17, 2010 people from the chat were coaxing Mikey Way to join without giving him much information otherwise; so, he decided to tweet, "#MCRchat ? let's do it!," thinking -- probably -- that they were telling him to create the chat.
I was in Tweetchat at the moment, and it absolutely exploded. Frantically, regular #MCRchat-attendees and I started giving out links to how the chat works and so forth to the confused.
We were able to help many of them, and even reached Mikey (as is evidenced by his second tweet being "via Tweetchat.").
He stuck around for only a short while, but the Tweetchat and tag search were so flooded that it was hard to do anything at all and even made my computer crash!
Mikey's attending #MCRchat that night was not our first hint that he had lurked it before:

In June 2009, what appeared to be a "pocket favorite" of one of the #MCRchat tweets appeared under his favorites. Note that the tweet he favorited was not at all connected to him via @-reply; so, it had to be something he merely stumbled upon.
Hmmm....
So, in the end, what happened was good times, confusion and a week or so following of mutiny and of people trying to overtake the chat. Ha-ha! I did a ton of damage control trying to help people figure out the chat.
That is why I say, if an MCR member is online and you're going to say something to them from the chat with "#MCRchat" tagged, be sure to include a link to http://twebevent.com/MCRchat so that they know what in the world is going on.
